There are several diff erent types of available
pulse compression optics for ultrafast
dispersion compensation, including gratings
and prisms. However, ultrafast highly-dispersive
mirrors are advantageous for pulse
compression due to their compact size, low
loss, and highly-negative dispersion over a
large bandwidth, which could be used for
alignment-insensitive pulse compressors
that compensate for GDD as well as third-
and high-order dispersion. Ultrafast highlydispersive
mirrors combine a wavelengthdependent
penetration eff ect, similar to that
of traditional chirped mirrors, and a multiresonance
eff ect known as multi-GTI. This
optimized combination of penetration and
resonant cavity eff ects allows higher GDD
values and low loss over broad bandwidth.
They are used for all-mirror, alignmentinsensitive
pulse compression applications.
