Edmund Optics® offers a large selection of mirrors ranging from those
designed for specific high power, narrow band laser line applications to
actively deformable mirrors for adaptive optical systems. Mirrors should
be selected based on the targeted application. Important factors including
wavelength or wavelength range, optical power or energy density on the
mirror surface, optical characteristics of the mirror coating and substrate,
polarization sensitivity, and physical parameters such as flatness should all
be considered when selecting a mirror. To help you choose the right mirror
for your application, a brief overview of the various mirror types, as well
as a table that summarizes the different specifications available within each
mirror type, is provided.
LASER LINE MIRRORS
Laser Line mirrors typically feature dielectric coatings optimized for nearperfect
reflectance at a specific design wavelength with high performance
over a specified wavelength range centered on the design wavelength. The
coatings and substrate materials are designed to yield mirrors with high
laser damage thresholds.
STANDARD FLAT MIRRORS
Standard flat mirrors feature the largest selection of substrate materials,
coating types, surface flatness, and sizes. Flat mirrors can be used in a
variety of applications including laboratory experimentation, beam steering,
and OEM integration. These mirrors are offered with protected and
enhanced aluminum coatings for UV and visible applications and with protected
gold or silver coatings for IR applications.
PRECISION FLAT MIRRORS
Precision optical flat mirrors are offered with fused silica or ZERODUR®
substrates with λ/10 and λ/20 surface flatness in a variety of sizes up to
12 inches (304.8 mm) in diameter. These mirrors are available with our
standard aluminum, gold, and silver coatings.
METAL SUBSTRATE MIRRORS
Metal substrates are ideal for applications requiring a constant expansion
between the mirror and mirror mount and applications where higher thermal
conductivity substrates are advantageous. Edmund Optics® offers a
variety of planar and off-axis parabolic mirrors with aluminum substrates.
These are available with protected aluminum and bare or protected gold
coatings.
FOCUSING MIRRORS
Focusing mirrors are ideal for applications that require light collection and
can be used for imaging and spectroscopy applications without chromatic
aberration. These mirrors are available with standard metal coatings on
spherical or parabolic surfaces.
SPECIALTY MIRRORS
Specialty mirrors are a unique subset of mirrors designed to offer solutions
to specific challenges such as space and weight limitations that cannot
be solved using “traditional” mirrors. Edmund Optics® offers a variety of
right angle prism mirrors, rod and cone mirrors, and actively adjustable
deformable mirrors. These mirrors are available with both dielectric and
metal coatings.
